Lake Macquarie Private Hospital is now offering a wider range of treatment options to residents of New South Wales’ Hunter Region thanks to its investment in the latest robot technology.

The da Vinci Xi system expands a surgeon’s human capabilities and allows minimally-invasive surgery to be performed for complex urological and gynaecological procedures.

Urologists Dr Marcus Handmer and Dr Peter Chong performed the first surgeries at the hospital using the technology.

“It means Lake Macquarie Private can provide the full gamut of urology care for patients, including minimally-invasive oncologic and reconstructive procedures with robotic assistance, such as robot-assisted prostatectomy, pyeloplasty, and partial nephrectomy,” Dr Handmer said.

CEO Sharon Rewitt said the investment represented an exciting milestone for the hospital, which serves the Hunter Valley, Newcastle and Port Stephens communities.

“As a part of Ramsay Health Care we are committed to our community and we’re proud to invest in this latest technology to give patients access to a broad range of medical treatment options,” Ms Rewitt said.

“This innovative technology will be available to patients at no extra cost, meaning our surgeons have the freedom to choose the appropriate surgical approach for each patient.”
