Perth residents now have new options for eye treatment after Subiaco Private Hospital added ophthalmology to its range of services.

The central city day surgery has recently welcomed ophthalmologists Dr Lourens Van Zyl and Dr CH Khong to its team, offering a range of vision-saving procedures including cataract removal, lens implantation and glaucoma surgery.

“Due to strong demand for ophthalmic services, we are already expanding the service and bringing other surgeons on board to service the community,” Subiaco Private Hospital CEO Natalie Taylor said.

Easily accessible from both sides of the Swan River, the hospital is a multi-disciplinary facility providing surgical procedures in specialties including ear, nose and throat, plastic and reconstructive, oral and maxillofacial, and general surgery.

“We are committed to providing the highest level of nursing care in a safe environment. We can care for babies as young as six months old because we have paediatric services and can offer overnight stays if required,” added Ms Taylor, who is also Director of Nursing.

“Being a day surgery, our wait times are also a lot shorter. The time frame from consultation to surgery is typically around one to two weeks, meaning people aren’t facing extended wait times for surgery.”

Subiaco Private, with two operating theatres and nine overnight beds, is part of the Cura Day Hospitals Group – which also runs the nearby Perth Eye Hospital and West Leederville Private Hospital.

In 2020 Perth Eye Hospital performed close to half of all private cataract procedures undertaken in Western Australia.
